About Me

Hi! I’m Ariel Smedley, a recent graduate in Film, Video, and Media Studies from Western Michigan University. While I specialize in video editing, I’m passionate about the entire spectrum of digital design and I'm eager to build a successful career in this field!

My journey with digital media began at 14, when I used editing apps to create fun projects for friends. Over time, I turned my hobby into a tool by incorporating my digital design skills into assignments, whether through videos, posters, or other creative projects. These experiences made me passionate for digital media and inspired me to pursue formal education in the field.

After earning an associate's degree in Multimedia through dual enrollment at a Kalamazoo Valley Community College, I continued my education and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree with outstanding marks. Along the way, I exercised my skills by incorporating design into every opportunity I could find, even while working in unrelated industries. I created posters, flyers, documents, graphics and videos for the businesses I worked for, which kept my creativity alive and reinforced my love for design.

How It Began

Where It's Going

Now, I’m excited to channel my skills and passion into professional projects that inspire and connect with people. I’m eager to collaborate with other professionals, learn from their expertise, and discover new ways to contribute to projects. One area I’m particularly interested in exploring further is motion graphics, as it’s a medium where I feel I have the most creative control. It’s something I hope to master over time, alongside other skills that make me more efficient, effective, and versatile as a creator.

While my long-term goals are still evolving, I recognize the power media design has to communicate and connect with the world around us. I hope to use this power for good, contributing to projects and initiatives that aim to heal, inspire, and make the world a better place. Whether it’s through working with an agency or collaborating on meaningful projects, I’m open to any opportunity that pushes me closer to this vision.
